The MDR-Z7M2 provides elegant audio reproduction, from highs to lows, with 70-mm HD drivers, aluminum-coated Liquid Crystal Polymer diaphragms, Fibonacci-patterned grill and a larger magnet that's twice the volume of the magnet used in its predecessor. The result is the reproduction of a three-dimensional, spatial sound experience existing in live atmosphere.
Newly developed HD driver units with a large diameter of 70mm are designed to cover your ears and produce a plane wave front similar to that in a natural sound field, and reproduce frequencies from 4Hz to 100kHz. Every note stays clear across a spacious sound stage, preserving the emotion and energy of the original recording, with true vocal clarity and precise bass response.

Smoother high-frequency response
Inherited from MDR-Z1R, the MDR-Z7M2 has a Fibonacci-patterned grill that reproduces the intended sound properties smoothly - a particular challenge with ultra-high frequencies.
Made of solid resin, with thinner frames, the Fibonacci-patterned grill achieves both strength and thinness to minimize sound damping from the grill at ultra-high frequencies.
Aluminum-coated LCP diaphragm
The dome of the diaphragm has been upsized and its profile has been optimized, which enables clear sound at mid-low range and brilliant sound at mid-high range. Combining aluminum and LCP, material-specific resonance is cancelled and delivers natural sound with low coloration.
Approx. 200% bigger Dynamic Neodymium Magnet
With a newly developed, bigger magnet that's double the volume of the MDR-Z7, the MDR-Z7M2 establishes more driving power and a fast response to high-resolution signals, which results in sharp clarity of sound.

Silver-coated oxygen-free copper cable
Silver-coated oxygen-free copper cables minimize resistance and signal-transmission loss. The result is less sound degradation, finer detail and smoother treble sounds.
A combination of three-dimensionally sewn synthetic leather surfaces and very thick, low-repulsion urethane foam cushion ensures an ergonomic shape designed to fit the unevenness of the head and gives even pressure throughout the area. By increasing air-tightness, sound leakage is reduced and sound optimized with heavy powerful bass.
Aluminum alloy is used for hangers and sliders, which form the backbone of the headphones. These guarantee both lightweight and long-lasting durability over the years.
Comfortable earpad materials
Soft urethane foam cushion with moisture-absorbing and -releasing characteristics were chosen for the surface of the earpads to reduce the feeling of stuffiness and provide a comfortable extended listening experience.
