At the centre of the Sony FX5 is a newly developed full-frame, fully stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor paired with Sony’s BIONZ XR2 processing engine. The processor includes a dedicated AI processing unit that supports subject recognition, autofocus tracking and advanced automatic white-balance performance.
The fully stacked sensor architecture provides fast readout for detailed high-resolution recording while helping the camera maintain smooth gradation and controlled noise in difficult lighting. In S-Log3, the FX5 captures more than 15 stops of latitude, preserving detail in both bright highlights and dark shadows for greater flexibility during colour grading.
Three Base ISO Settings and Dual Gain Shooting
The Sony FX5 provides three base ISO settings—ISO 800, ISO 4000 and ISO 12800—allowing filmmakers to select a sensitivity level that better matches the lighting conditions on set. Five-axis in-body image stabilization helps control handheld camera movement, while Active Mode and Dynamic Active Mode provide additional electronic stabilization support when greater correction is required.
The 3.5-inch multi-angle touchscreen can be repositioned for handheld shooting, low-angle framing, gimbal work and compact camera rigs. Sony’s BIG6 home screen places six frequently used settings together: frame rate, exposure index or ISO, shutter, iris, LUT and white balance.

Dual media slots accept both CFexpress Type A and SD memory cards. The slots support workflows such as simultaneous recording, relay recording, separated recording and recording main and proxy files to different cards.
