With a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 and a minimum aperture of f/22, it combines a flexible telephoto zoom range with a bright maximum opening across the entire focal length span.

Constant f/2.8 Maximum Aperture

The lens maintains an f/2.8 maximum aperture throughout the 50 to 120mm zoom range, meaning the widest available opening does not change as the focal length is adjusted. The aperture can be stopped down to a minimum of f/22. An 11-blade rounded iris is used, which shapes the opening formed by the aperture blades.

APS-C Format Coverage and Angle of View

The lens is built for APS-C format coverage. Its angle of view spans 31.7° to 13.5°, narrowing as the focal length increases from the wide end to the telephoto end of the zoom range.

Optical Construction

The optical design consists of 18 elements arranged in 13 groups. This element-and-group configuration forms the optical path through which the 50 to 120mm focal range and f/2.8 to f/22 aperture range are achieved.

Minimum Focus Distance Across the Zoom Range

Minimum focus distance varies with focal length. At the wide end, the closest focus distance is 9.1" / 23.1 cm, while at the telephoto end it extends to 21.7" / 55.1 cm.</

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0062/3414/4871/files/sigma_694975_50_120mm_f_2_8_dc_os_2005237.jpg?v=1791477727
